ESMA113 - Hiding Malicious Files with Steganography

CyberWarrior

About This Course

Steganography is a technique used to hide malicious code within a file of a different format, such is the case of hiding text within an image. This technique has been used for several years and today new techniques are still being developed to apply it.

With steganography, the configuration file is embedded in the cover file and the resulting steganography file can be decrypted into main memory, further reducing the chance of detection. That is why it is very difficult to discover that there is hidden information, such as configuration files, binary updates or bot commands, inside the encrypted files.

Unfortunately, the use of steganography in cyber attacks is easy to implement and difficult to detect.
